Margaret Greene Jones (1927-2007)

Artist and teacher Margaret Greene Jones was born in Charleston West Virginia in 1927 where she later attended the University of Charleston. After relocating to Maryland she continued her studies at Baltimore Community College, John Hopkins University, the Schuler School of Fine Art and the Baltimore Museum of Art.

She studied with many highly regarded American watercolorists. Among them was artist, William “Skip” Lawrence ( also in the collection) .

Jones was a member of numerous artists groups and communities including the Maryland Art League , the Beckley Art Group, the Maryland Federation of Art and the Philadelphia Watercolor Society. In addition she was a past president of the Baltimore Watercolor Society.

She exhibited at the Slayton House Gallery in Columbia, Md. in an exhibit titled "Four Realist" in March and April of 1993. Charleston University's Erma Byrd Art Gallery lists Jones with their collection of West Virginia Women Artists and notes the artist's work "Eliza's Glads" in their collection.
